Everyday Spring Essentials

Posted by Jenny Nguyen on Mar 28th 2023

Warmer weather is finally here and I am excited to dress my kids for spring! For boys, it’s a good idea to load up on t-shirts and shorts. I will be dressing my son in graphic t-shirts and knit shorts on an everyday basis. On Sundays, he’ll be wearing a polo, henley, button-up shirt, or a solid tee with woven shorts to church. We like to stick to neutral colors, it makes putting together outfits so much easier. Our staple color palette for him is white, black, grey, navy, olive and khaki.

When it comes to shoes, I like to always have one pair of sneakers and one pair of sandals that currently fit. Knowing what shoe options you already have will help you shop for your little one. For example, I avoid buying outfits for which I would have to purchase separate shoes, especially since he grows out of them quickly.

This season I’ll be dressing my baby girl in dresses, two-piece sets and rompers. I plan on putting her in mostly dresses until the end of summer, and knit dresses are just so easy and comfortable that there's no need to put together a whole outfit. For church and birthday parties, she’ll be wearing nicer dresses (mostly woven fabric). Sometimes, I like to layer a onesie or bodysuit underneath her dress, but you can opt for diaper covers too. I might buy my daughter her first pair of sandals too if I happen to come across a pair I really like. For now, she will just be wearing socks that match her outfit. Here are a few dresses I found for her at my local Once Upon A Child. I’ve actually built quite a collection, but these three dresses are my current favorites — I love this natural color scheme.

Here is a checklist I’ve created for my kids’ spring essentials. Having a wardrobe checklist will help you shop smart and ensures you don't over or under-buy. Feel free to save this image as a reference or create your own checklist. We are a family that stays in our pajamas unless we have to go out and we also do laundry at least every other day, so you might want to add to these quantities as needed.
