Shop Sustainably and Save $$$
Posted by Javessa Stanton on Apr 29th 2024
Let’s talk about shopping sustainably. I choose to always shop sustainably for my kiddos because I’m all about saving the planet. My favorite way to shop sustainably is buying secondhand. When I no longer need that item, I will sell or donate it in order to reduce waste. By doing this, I am retaining and recovering as much value as possible from resources. Reusing, repairing and recycling products and materials gives those items an extended lifespan and creates a cycle of consuming responsibly.
Summer is just around the corner and we all need to start working on our kiddo’s wardrobes. With that being said, secondhand shopping makes it possible for everyone to buy quality products at a lower price. Thrifting keeps clothing in use for longer, which can help limit wasted resources through decreased demand for new products. This is a great way to save money.
Our favorite local shop to go to is always Once Upon A Child. At Once Upon A Child, they buy gently used kids' clothes, shoes, toys and baby gear that meet current styles and safety standards. Not only are you helping the planet, but it’s worth the money. I always end up walking out with more and spending less than I would’ve at other stores.
I wanted to share five benefits of shopping secondhand and why we choose this over other options.
- Saving money! One of the most obvious and well-known benefits of buying secondhand is the cost savings.
- Shopping resale is an easy way to help the environment and preserve natural resources.
- There isn’t any packaging. This reduces waste and also allows us to test out items in the store before we buy them!
- Once Upon A Child is a local business. By supporting them, we're putting money back into our community.
- You never know what you'll find when thrifting! There can be some very cool and unique items at great prices.
Make sure to check out your local Once Upon A Child. It’s a fast and convenient way to make some extra cash on your gently used baby clothes, toys and gear. Let’s all start shopping sustainably and help the planet this year!
