Snug As A Bug Bedtime Essentials

Hi there! It’s Jenny, and today I will be sharing my sleep essentials and routine for my baby and toddler. Good sleep is so important for the kids and the parents but it’s not always that easy to achieve. It’s not just about creating a comfortable and safe environment for your baby to sleep in but also figuring out a bedtime routine.
For my two-year-old, it starts with a bath after dinner. He plays in the tub for a few minutes then puts on his pajamas. My husband and I will then spend some time playing with him and reading to him. We signal bedtime by dimming the lights and turning on his sound machine. He gets his milk, brushes his teeth, changes into a fresh diaper and is allowed to pick out some plushies to bring to bed. Lately, it’s been taking about 15 minutes for him to fall asleep.
In my previous blog, I mentioned that I sold some swaddles and sleepers at my local Once Upon A Child. So, you can probably guess that it’s a great place to shop for your sleep essentials as well. For me, I am always keeping an eye out for footed zipper pajamas for my 4-month-old and two-piece sets for my son. I like to look for pajamas that have a high cotton or cellulose (rayon, modal, lyocell or viscose) fiber content. I try to stay away from polyester especially flannel due to pilling and static, and it’s also a little scratchy against their sensitive skin.
Other sleep essentials for my family are swaddles and sleep sacks since my son had to be swaddled when he was a baby. After trying many different types and brands we landed on one that works perfectly. It has breathable mesh and keeps your baby tucked in all night. On the other hand, our baby girl is the complete opposite. She likes to sleep with her arms stretched out. Since blankets are not considered safe for infants, I recommend trying sleep sacks, which are like wearable sleeping bags so your baby stays nice and warm.
If you are currently struggling to keep your kid asleep throughout the night, don’t be discouraged. It is only temporary and every baby is different. I’ll be honest, I am still trying to figure out a concrete routine for my 4-month-old baby girl. Bedtime routines are also subject to change as your kid grows and develops. Consistency is key but if the routine or products are not working, try switching it up a little bit. Check out your local Once Upon A Child and their selection to find what works for you and your little one.
