Summer Sustainable Shopping

Posted by Javessa Stanton on Jul 19th 2024

Can you believe that summer is already halfway over? As the days get even hotter, it’s time to take a full swing on all outside activities. Every year we like to create a fun bucket list and our goal is always to at least finish 2-3 activities from the list. At the top of the list is always a fun beach day. They could spend hours upon hours there with no complaints.

Did you know your local Once Upon A Child carries beautiful and sustainable swimwear? If your kids are like mine and grow out of their clothing quickly, then sustainable shopping is your way to go! At the beginning of the summer, I gathered up the children’s summer clothes that no longer fit and dropped them off at my local Once Upon A Child to make room for new additions to their summer wardrobes. You can always find affordable items at your local Once Upon A Child. I found this beautiful beige swimsuit for my daughter Raya and these stripe swim shorts for my son Rowan for only $12! Not only were they affordable, but they were in perfect condition like they were brand new. Can you believe that?

There are so many perks when you shop sustainably. Not only are you helping the planet and the environment around you, but you’re also helping yourself! Sustainable shopping means shopping in a way that has fewer negative environmental and social impacts. This encourages you to be mindful of the way you shop and buy items made of ethical materials that can last a long time.

Here are a few ways that can help you when trying to shop sustainably.

Shop secondhand like buying preowned clothing from thrift and consignment shops. Shopping secondhand encourages recycling by giving new life to clothes that would otherwise have been discarded or dumped into a landfill. Also, donating unwanted clothing and purchasing used clothing instead of buying new is a huge help. The best part is you can do this all at your local Once Upon A Child
