Thrifty Toy Treasures for Toddlers

Posted by Jenny Nguyen on Aug 28th 2023

Hello, reader. It’s Jenny, and today I will be talking about TOYS! Like every other child, my toddler asks to see the toy section every time we go shopping. He knows that he’s only allowed to look. Occasionally, he will ask to buy something, and I have to turn it down gently. I do feel a little guilty sometimes, but I know my kids have more than enough at home.

Toys are a child’s happiness; they're their treasure. No matter where you come from, toys bring children joy. Unfortunately, the toy industry knows that very well and charges an arm and a leg for brand names. Especially with inflation, I have witnessed prices increasing by over 20%, which has made it more challenging for parents who are just trying to get by.

When purchasing toys, opting for used ones can have numerous advantages. Here are a few key points to consider:

  1. Cost-Effective: Buying used toys is an excellent way to save money. Secondhand toys are often significantly cheaper, allowing you to stretch your budget further.
  2. Environmental Impact: By buying used toys, you are reducing waste. The toy industry is known for its excessive packaging and production waste, so buying secondhand helps to lessen the demand for mass-produced toys.
  3. Unique Finds: Buying used toys opens up a world of special and discontinued options that you won’t be able to find in big box stores.
  4. Teach Valuable Lessons: By choosing to buy used toys, you can teach your child about the importance of reusing and recycling, helping instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Once Upon A Child is a great place to build your child’s toy collection. We have purchased two bags of dinosaurs on two separate trips. Each bag had 8-12 dinosaurs (along with some dragons, which my son also loves), and it was only $3 a bag! We even found a set of dinosaurs that I had never seen before. A brand-new plastic dinosaur can cost $8-$15 each, but Once Upon A Child’s prices are even lower than clearance prices. Toys really shouldn’t cost a fortune, and there is nothing wrong with buying used toys. My son doesn’t even notice the difference.

Remember, buying used toys doesn't mean compromising on quality or fun. Toys sold at Once Upon A Child are still in excellent condition and can provide hours of entertainment for your child. Visit your local store nearest you and see what thrifty toy treasures await!
